Session 1: Introduction and fundamentals of light and photochemistry – James Bolton
Most AOTs involve initiation by a photochemical step. This session will cover the fundamental of light and its propagation and absorption. Then the focus will shift to the fundamentals of photochemistry, including a description of the absorption process, photochemical processes and quantum yields.

Session 2: Fundamentals of AOTs, AOT types and equipment – James Bolton
A detailed discussion of the rates of AOTs will be presented both for monochromatic and polychromatic UV lamps. The steady-state approximation will be introduced for short-lived intermediates, such as the hydroxyl radical. The concept of radical scavenging will be introduced and its effect on the overall rate will be examined. The various AOT types will be discussed, as well as the AOT energy efficiency. Various types of AOT equipment will be described and how these components fit into an AOT system.

Sessions 3 and 4: AOT design and case studies – James Collins
These sessions will cover a detailed discussion on the design considerations when evaluating, selecting and designing an AOT facility.  AOTs include a range of potential treatment technologies and selecting the proper technology for each application is critical to project success.  These sessions will include water quality, byproduct, and hydrogen peroxide quenching considerations when evaluating AOTs. Examples of successful full-scale applications of AOTs will also be presented.
